MILLINGTON, MD - Jan 18, 2014
A suspected drunk driver who police trailed from Delaware into Maryland died after he crashed his car into a home in Kent County, police said.
According to police, officers from the Clayton Delaware police department tried to stop a driver in a 2004 Saturn SUV when they noticed him driving erratically on Rt. 291 Saturday morning. The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Adam Hughes, refused to stop.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Maryland State Police were called to a single vehicle crash in Millington. Responding troopers found Delaware police already on the scene where a 2004 Saturn SUV had crashed into a vacant house. Hughes was the only person in the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that Delaware police tried to stop Hughes in Delaware on suspicion of driving under the influence but he refused to pull over. Police followed him on Route 291 until he lost control, hit a utility pole and then ran into a vacant house.
Maryland State Police are investigating.
