Overturned big rig this morning just up the road from my residence at the Yuba/Butte county line. NEU Sta-95 (Marysville) initial response area. Mutual aid from Butte County brought T-74 and E-73 with Pickard,Long, Martinez and Bryant.
Major extrication of the driver who was trapped in the cab, one leg wrapped around the dash, other leg out through the windshield and partially under the truck. Severe road rash and bi-lateral fractured legs.
I think that Sta-95 and T-74/E-74 used about every trick and tool in the book, including the heavy tow for lifting/stability and made a third door with the cutters and air chisel through the back of the cab.
Extrication took one hour and forty minutes, and it appears that the driver will survive.
T-74/E-73 did a fantastic job, and all that experience really paid off today. The area CHP commander told me that in all his years on the job he had never seen such a difficult accident scene go so well with discipline, communication, safety and skill.
